Neglecting your duties can make you stumble

In one sentence

Betraying amanah, especially neglecting responsibilities toward Allah, family, and those entrusted to one's care, can cause a person to stumble on the Sirat, so believers must cultivate faith, prayer, love, patience, and humility.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Warns that every believer will face the dangerous Sirat and need Allah’s protection.
  2. Explains how amanah and kinship may intercede for or testify against a person.
  3. Defines amanah through the body, wealth, family, secrets, borrowed property, and leadership.
  4. Warns parents against neglecting religious upbringing, allowing harmful influences, and modeling bad behavior.
  5. Uses Luqman’s advice as a parenting roadmap: affection, tawheed, prayer, good action, patience, and humility.
  6. Closes by urging serious accountability and fear of falling into the Fire.

For the dinner table

Allah has entrusted us with our bodies, wealth, families, responsibilities, and the people who trust us. The khutbah warns that amanah and family ties will matter when we cross the Sirat, so we should not treat these duties lightly. For parents, caring for this trust means teaching faith and prayer, protecting children from harmful influences, and modeling the character we ask from them. Luqman’s example begins with love and connection, then teaches tawheed, meaningful salah, patience, good action, and humility. This week, we can show affection, explain the wisdom behind our guidance, and make our homes more faithful and loving.

  1. What is one trust Allah or another person has given you that you can care for better this week?
  2. What helps you feel loved and ready to listen when someone gives you advice?
  3. Which part of Luqman’s advice, prayer, patience, kindness, or humility, would you like to practice?
