Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Dec 12, 2025.

True taqwa means obeying Allah over feelings

“If you can't crush your feelings, your feeling will crush you.”

The khateeb, at 9:00

In one sentence

The khutbah argues that authentic taqwa requires subordinating feelings and desires to Allah's revealed truth, urgently transforming worship, especially prayer, before death, and helping others do the same.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Calls believers to fear Allah, speak truthfully, and obey revelation rather than personal desires.
  2. Contrasts evidence-based conduct with emotion-driven living, warning that desires divide and weaken the community.
  3. Urges immediate repentance by reflecting on death, the unseen, Jannah, and Jahannam.
  4. Prescribes beginning transformation in the masjid and salah through slower prayer, khushu', and understanding recitations.
  5. Encourages checking decisions against Islamic rulings and sharing the weekly reminder with three people.
  6. Closes with supplications for stronger iman, salvation from Hell, and entry into Jannah.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that taqwa means taking Allah's guidance seriously, not letting every feeling decide our actions. Because life and death are uncertain, the speaker urged us to repent and change now rather than waiting for tomorrow. He pointed to prayer as the starting place: slow down, seek khushu', and understand what we recite in ruku' and sujood. He also encouraged each person to ask what Allah and His Messenger teach about a decision and to share a useful reminder with three friends. The closing du'a asked Allah to strengthen our iman, save us from Hell, and admit us to Jannah.

  1. What is one part of your prayer you would like to understand better?
  2. What is one change you should begin today instead of postponing?
  3. Who could benefit from a kind reminder this week?
