Patience keeps faith steady through hardship
Muslims should follow the Prophet Muhammad’s example by studying his life, preparing for hardship, and remaining patient and steadfast in faith because Allah’s help comes with perseverance.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Presents Prophet Muhammad as God’s guide and an example for every area of life.
- Urges Muslims to study the Prophet’s biography to know and emulate him.
- Focuses on patience and steadfastness amid hardship in the path of da'wah.
- Uses stories of earlier prophets, Khabbab, the People of the Trench, and Pharaoh’s magicians.
- Reassures believers that the religion’s future remains secure despite suffering and opposition.
- Closes with exhortations to fear Allah, send blessings on the Prophet, pray for steadfastness, and establish prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“by Allah this religion will prevail until a traveler from sal'a to hadramaut will fear none but Allah and the wolf against his sheep but you are hasty”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah taught that Prophet Muhammad is the example Muslims should follow in every part of life. The main focus was his patience and steadfastness when he and his companions were harmed for their faith. The stories of earlier prophets, Khabbab ibn al-Aratt, the People of the Trench, and Pharaoh’s magicians showed that believers may face severe trials without abandoning truth. The khateeb also reminded us that Allah’s help and the future of the religion are not defeated by temporary oppression, while connecting this lesson to Gaza. We can respond by learning the Prophet’s biography, preparing ourselves for hardship, staying patient, and remaining firm in faith.
- Which part of the Prophet’s example could we practice as a family this week?
- What does patience look like when a problem does not end quickly?
- How can we respond compassionately when we hear about suffering in places like Gaza?
