Choose study over digital distraction
“Forget about social media, man, forget about taking social media and let me learn my Islam from social media.”
Islam is a transformative religion of purification and knowledge, so Muslims should replace passive digital consumption with deliberate study of the Qur'an, hadith, creed, Arabic, and school subjects.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Uses the Prophet's mission to argue that Islam purified and educated an unlettered society.
- Explains the first revelation as a call to reading, writing, and knowledge.
- Contrasts learning with time lost to phones, entertainment, and unhealthy distractions.
- Uses the milk dream hadith and scholars' sayings to portray knowledge as spiritual nourishment.
- Proposes a vacation curriculum of Qur'an, hadith, creed, Arabic, and advance school reading.
- Closes by connecting sincere, correct study with worship and the Sunnah.
In the khateeb's words
“so the idea that Islam is backwards this is completely incorrect the Prophet brought a paradigm shift”
“getting knowledge into your heart taking it studying it and it comes into your heart is like the feeling of when you eat and drink for your body”
“forget about social media man forget about taking social media and let me learn my Islam from social media this is cheap dopamine there is no going away from a book and memorizing”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah taught that Islam came to purify people and open the doors of learning. The first revelation began with a command to read, so seeking knowledge is part of worship. The khateeb warned that phones and endless entertainment can consume the time and energy our hearts need for learning. He encouraged us to use our break to memorize Qur'an and hadith, study basic belief and Arabic, and read ahead for school. Even one steady learning habit can help us grow closer to Allah and live with more purpose.
