Truth needs courage, patience, and good character
“Can you just acknowledge the truth as truth?”
Believers should recognize and follow truth, remain steadfast when Islam is challenged, and respond through Quranic knowledge, patience, character, and community support.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Explains that believers must recognize truth and follow it, using a prophetic supplication.
- Uses Iblis and opposition to Muhammad to show that truth will inevitably be resisted.
- Argues that stigma, money, Quran desecration, and detention cannot extinguish Islam's message.
- Calls Muslims to proclaim the Quran without hesitation, illustrated through Sa'id ibn Jubayr's courage before al-Hajjaj.
- Urges restraint toward insults and positive responses through Quranic character, family conduct, teaching, and community support.
- Closes with prayers for forgiveness, unity, and oppressed Muslims, followed by salah.
In the khateeb's words
“All of it comes down to this one very simple skill. Can you just acknowledge the truth as truth? That's it.”
“be good with your brothers be good with your sisters be good with your families be good in your marriage teach your children Quran teach yourself Quran and follow the footsteps of Muhammad alayhi salatu wassalam”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that a believer must learn to recognize the truth and follow it, even when doing so is difficult. He said Islam will sometimes make people uncomfortable and face rejection, but attempts to silence the Quran cannot destroy its message. He encouraged us to answer insults with Quranic knowledge, patience, and good character instead of giving provokers what they want. At home, we can teach ourselves and our children Quran, treat family members well, and support the masjid and Muslim community. He closed by praying for forgiveness, unity, and relief for oppressed Muslims, including those in Gaza and Sudan.
- What is one truth that can be difficult to accept?
- How can we respond calmly when someone mocks what we believe?
- What is one Quran habit our family could begin this week?
