Endless arguments can block guidance

“Look at the examples of the righteous before us and say this is one thing that they do that I will try.”

For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that caring for our family includes encouraging one another toward goodness and accepting reminders ourselves. Through the story of the Prophet visiting Ali and Fatima and inviting them to pray, the khateeb showed how faith and family care belong together. He warned that we can keep making arguments or pointing to what everyone else does until we put off doing what is right. He encouraged us to listen with humility and try a good action we see in righteous people. He also reminded us that even people who have done terrible wrongs can turn back to Allah in repentance, giving us reason to seek forgiveness and fill our days with sincere good deeds.

  1. What helps you listen when someone in our family reminds you to do something good?
  2. When has following the crowd made a good choice harder for you?
  3. What small good deed could we practice together this week?
