Let iman guide your time and choices
“Your iman needs to drive your life.”
In one sentence
Because time passes quickly, believers should use every fresh start to strengthen iman, pursue excellence, deepen Islamic knowledge, and serve themselves and others productively.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reflects on how rapidly time passes and frames the new year as a chance for renewal.
- Urges iman to guide worship, choices, media, friendships, and conduct everywhere.
- Calls youth to excellence in education, literacy, mathematics, science, and disciplined work.
- Connects excellence with respectful character toward teachers, peers, parents, and school property.
- Encourages deeper Islamic learning through available resources in tajweed, fiqh, hadith, tafsir, Arabic, and aqeedah.
- Warns against digital distractions and closes with a call to track time, act productively, and benefit others.
Try this week
Pray five times daily, recite Qur'an daily, make du'a, and worship attentively rather than on autopilot.
Track ibadah and habits, and regularly hold yourself accountable.
Listen to teachers, take notes, complete homework, and aim for high achievement in literacy, mathematics, and science.
Respect teachers, classmates, parents, siblings, and school property.
Request prayer space and halal accommodations when needed, use them responsibly, and return to class afterward.
Use evenings and weekends for productive activities and deeper Islamic study, including tajweed, fiqh, hadith, tafsir, Arabic, and aqeedah.
Limit TikTok, Instagram, reels, and other distractions; track time and improve daily.
Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“time will never come back every year, every month, every week, every hour, every day, every minute, once it's gone, it's not coming back.”
“Your iman needs to drive your life. What you're doing, what you're saying, whether you're at home or you're at school.”
“Let's aim high. Don't be content with doing the minimum to pass your courses or just to get by and ask the teacher, what do I have to do and what's extra, what's bonus?”
“The biggest killer of potential is distractions, right? We have so much potential.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that time moves quickly and cannot be recovered, so every day is a chance to use our time well. Our faith should guide our choices at home, at school, and when no one else is watching. We were encouraged to pursue excellence in school, speak and write clearly, respect teachers and classmates, and care for the places and tools that help us learn. We should also keep learning our deen, limit distractions, and make a fresh start by choosing habits that benefit ourselves and others.
- What is one way your iman can guide you at school this week?
- Which distraction would you like to reduce, and what will you do with that time?
- What subject or Islamic skill would you like to improve?
