Sincere repentance should change how we live
“When you deal with a stranger, you deal with them straight up.”
The khutbah teaches that believers should strengthen their relationship with Allah through sincere worship and repentance, while following the Prophet’s example of compassionate leadership, trust, and honest dealings.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Human relationships are unique, but the relationship with Allah is most important.
- Umrah travelers should prioritize worship, guidance, and purposeful use of sacred time.
- Allah commands gentle speech even toward Pharaoh, teaching patience with parents, children, and sinners.
- Sincere repentance, self-control, and changed habits are essential to seeking Allah’s pleasure.
- The story of Jabir shows the Prophet’s care for grief, debt, family responsibility, and livelihood.
- Prophetic leadership builds trust by personally caring for every individual, especially the vulnerable.
- Muslims should live like brothers while handling money and business with honesty, documentation, and fairness.
In the khateeb's words
“Use your time wisely. And do one thing when you're in Medina. Say durood. Praise Allah. When you're in Mecca, do as much Tawaf as possible.”
“And this is what True leadership is That when you Reach high elevations of status You don't remember where you came from”
“Live like brothers Deal like strangers When you deal with a stranger You deal with them straight up You don't have any of these biases Or any of these assumptions”
For the dinner table
The first khutbah reminded us that our relationship with Allah deserves our care and attention, including how we spend opportunities for worship. It encouraged us to speak gently when correcting others, drawing on Allah’s instruction to Musa and Harun when approaching Fir’aun. When we struggle with bad habits, we should keep worshipping, seek forgiveness sincerely, and work toward change. The second khutbah described the Prophet’s care for Jabir and showed how leadership grows through personal attention, practical help, and trust. It also reminded us to avoid using our position to get favors and to handle money with honesty and clear agreements, even among friends and family.
- What is a gentle way to remind someone about something they forgot?
- Who might appreciate a check-in from you this week, and what could you say?
- What should friends agree on before lending each other money or something valuable?
