Hardship can become a cure

“What makes an affliction, a cure, or a punishment, is the way I react to it.”

The khateeb, at 13:51

The khutbah in 4 steps

  1. Human self-sufficiency and ego cause people to neglect revelation and religious guidance.
  2. Hardship can soften the ego and produce tadarra'a, desperate acknowledgment of need before Allah.
  3. Persistent dua may itself be Allah's answer, and an affliction can become a cure through the right response.
  4. Ease can also mislead when people treat blessings as meaningless worldly cycles; true punishment is being seized without repentance.

Respond to hardship with tawbah, prayer, and tadarra'a.
Make honest dua by acknowledging weakness and absolute need for Allah.
Recite the prophetic supplication for contentment and barakah when facing difficulty and when leaving home.
