Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Aug 1, 2026.
Knowing Allah shapes every private choice
“Any action you want to take in life, ask yourself, will Allah be pleased with this action?”
In one sentence
A strong relationship with Allah begins with knowing Him through His names and attributes, and is proven by being mindful of Him in every private choice and staying firm on the deen under pressure, as illustrated by the story of the boy and the king.
The khutbah in 8 steps
- Intro: topic is the relationship with Allah; define what that even means before asking how to build it
- Step one: know who Allah is through His names and attributes (al-Khaliq, al-Razzaq, al-Sami', al-Aleem, al-Baseer) and how that awareness changes behavior (swearing, fake fasting)
- Hadith of Ibn Abbas: 'Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you', applied to the job-interview handshake scenario
- Two protections: physical protection via guardian angels (al-hafadha), and protection of iman from shaitan
- Ask Allah first and for everything, big or small; seek help only from Him in hardship
- Tawakkul/qadar principle: if the whole world gathered to benefit or harm you, they could only do what Allah wrote
- Story of the boy and the king (Ashab al-Ukhdud): monk vs magician, the rock and the beast, the miracles, the martyrdoms, the trenches of fire, the speaking infant
- Close: choose the difficult option of sticking to the deen in a society pressuring you to leave it
Try this week
Study Allah's names one by one and learn what each name means
Before any action, ask whether Allah would be pleased with it; act only if He would be
Decline handshakes with non-mahram opposite gender respectfully, explaining your religion
Ask Allah first, before parents or friends, for every need, no matter how small
Seek help from Allah specifically when facing job loss, debt, or repeated rejection
Don't just memorize Quran (e.g. Surah al-Buruj); study and understand what you memorized
Stay firm on the deen when online or social pressure tells you to doubt or leave it
