Prepare for Laylat al-Qadr from within

“The only thing that's gonna remain for you is the time spent in this dunya truly pursuing amal salih.”

The khateeb, at 10:17

In one sentence

In Ramadan’s last ten nights, true preparation for Laylat al-Qadr and uncertain times comes through self-accountability, soul-purification, knowing Allah, and pursuing righteous action rather than external signs.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. The khutbah begins with the immense opportunity of Laylat al-Qadr and the danger of missing its goodness through the nafs.
  2. Ramadan should become an inward search marked by peace, self-accountability, and changed behaviors, time, and companionship.
  3. Death, the grave, and the impermanence of worldly life make righteous deeds the believer’s lasting preparation.
  4. In uncertain times, finding one’s soul and Allah provides refuge, while Quranic scenes of resurrection expose human dependence.
  5. Believers must search for truth and resist deception through kinship-cutting, disobedience, injustice, oppression, and excessive desire.
  6. Because only Allah knows the coming decree, believers should seek guidance, tawfiq, and purified souls during Laylat al-Qadr.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminds us that the last ten nights of Ramadan are a chance to search our hearts, not merely look for outward signs of Laylat al-Qadr. We should ask what we are doing and why, then choose better habits, better use of time, and better company. Since life and worldly possessions do not last, our righteous deeds are what prepare us for the grave and for meeting Allah. In confusing and difficult times, we should seek truth, resist deception, and turn to Allah for guidance and purified hearts.

  1. What is one habit you would like to change before Ramadan ends?
