Muslim communities must invest in youth
“We have to build the infrastructure that gives a place of refuge.”
Muslims in America must invest now in lasting institutions, youth support, and early religious education so future generations remain connected to Islam and their communities thrive.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Uses projected church closures and a Quranic warning as a cautionary lesson.
- Identifies declining religiosity and weak community infrastructure as threats to faith retention.
- Describes youth vulnerabilities including drugs, suicide, illicit relationships, online doubts, addiction, and mental-health struggles.
- Argues that surface fixes fail and communities must address underlying causes through generational investment.
- Calls for Islamic schools, Muslim colleges, mental-health resources, and interest-free educational financing.
- Highlights Georgia’s Tax Credit Awareness Program and children’s gratitude education as examples of building a Muslim future.
In the khateeb's words
“if we don't build our community, then religion will flee from them faster than we can imagine.”
“We have to build Islamic schools. We have to build Muslim colleges. We have to build the infrastructure that gives a place of refuge.”
For the dinner table
Our community has to think beyond today and prepare places where Muslim children can learn, belong, and ask for help. The khateeb reminded us that youth can face drugs, unhealthy relationships, online doubts, and mental-health struggles, so families should not assume our children are automatically protected. He encouraged early religious education and lasting investments in schools, colleges, counseling, and interest-free financial pathways. Like an olive tree planted for people who come after us, our efforts may benefit future generations more than ourselves. Small practices, such as asking children what they are grateful to Allah for, can help them grow a strong Muslim identity.
- What could our family do this year to help younger Muslims in our community?
- What are you grateful to Allah for today?
- Which support resource would help young people most? Why?
