Guidance must be learned and shared
“Without knowledge, guidance cannot be used properly.”
The khutbah argues that the Prophet's guidance and knowledge are life-giving like beneficial rain, and people should receive them with humility, learn them deeply, apply them wisely, and teach others.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Introduces the hadith as a response to moral disorder and the Prophet's mission to restore things to their proper place.
- Explains the Prophet's message as abundant, beneficial rain that gives life to earth and guidance that gives life to hearts.
- Describes fertile land as people who absorb guidance and produce abundant benefit.
- Describes hard ground as people who retain knowledge and pass it on despite limited personal understanding.
- Describes barren, arrogant land as people who neither receive nor share guidance, then urges deep understanding, humility, application, and teaching.
In the khateeb's words
“Rain gives life to the earth. And guidance gives life to the heart. gives life to our soul. the souls that have been dying.”
“Without knowledge, guidance cannot be used properly. So the Prophet was sent with guidance and also with the means to understand and navigate guidance.”
“Those are the people that can give and take. "Fa'alima wa 'allama" So they learn and they teach.”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah compared the Prophet's guidance and knowledge to abundant, beneficial rain. Just as rain brings life to the earth, guidance brings life to our hearts. The khateeb described fertile soil that absorbs water and grows plants, ground that holds water for others to use, and barren ground that does neither. He encouraged us to learn deeply, practice what we learn, and share its benefits with others. He also reminded us that humility helps us receive knowledge, while arrogance and carelessness get in the way.

- How could you share something helpful you know with a friend or sibling?
- What helps you listen when someone corrects you?
