Preserve your faith through every trial
“The purpose of this story is to show humankind the importance of preserving iman in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
The story of the People of the Cave teaches believers to preserve their iman through trials by seeking knowledge, righteous companionship, patience, and protection from corrupting influences.
The khutbah in 4 steps
- Introduces Surat al-Kahf, its stories, and the virtues of reciting it on Fridays.
- Recounts how young believers resisted persecution, fled to a cave, and were protected by Allah.
- Explains that the story emphasizes preserving iman rather than debating incidental details.
- Concludes with practical steps: learn the deen, recite and study Surat al-Kahf, and maintain righteous companionship.
In the khateeb's words
“the purpose of this story is to show humankind the importance of preserving iman in Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and that one should not sell out their iman for anything in this world”
“A person must keep company with the believers and keep your families close to the believers, to the houses of Allah, to the people of Salah, to the people of Zikr, to the people of Iman.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah taught us from the story of the young believers in Surat al-Kahf that faith is more valuable than comfort or worldly approval. When their faith was threatened, they held onto Allah and sought refuge together, and Allah protected them. The speaker reminded us that modern distractions and social pressures can also test our iman. We can strengthen it by learning our deen, reciting Surat al-Kahf on Fridays, and choosing righteous friends. Families should stay close to the masjid and people who help them remember Allah.
- What kinds of things can make it harder to remember Allah during the week?
- Who helps you become a better Muslim, and how?
- What is one small step we can take together this Friday?
