Learn the complete lives of the Imams
“We are not even telling the people how much research is being done on the greatness of Ahl al-Bayt by the non-Muslims.”
The khutbah argues that Muslims must learn the complete lives of all the Imams and Ahl al-Bayt, preserve and research their history, answer hostile narratives with truth, and embody their service so Islam reaches future generations and wider society.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Laments limited knowledge of Hazrat Abbas and the Imams’ full lives, including their worship, service, teaching, and defense.
- Calls scholars and communities to study each Imam systematically and teach the next generation.
- Connects remembering historical oppression with answering criticism of Shia mosques through research and logical responses.
- Presents Ahl al-Bayt as preservers of the faith and spreading truth as a communal responsibility.
- Uses examples of the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Ali to emphasize humility, service, and hospitality.
- Encourages youth, research centers, and literature projects during Muharram, Safar, and Rabi al-Awwal.
In the khateeb's words
“You can't just keep quiet. You have to give them a logical answer.”
“So we have been sent here in this place to spread the truth. And then truth expands.”
“We are not even telling the people how much research is being done on the greatness of Ahl al-Bayt by the non-Muslims.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb encouraged us to learn about the whole lives of all the Imams and help our children know them more deeply. He reminded us that life is short and that we have a responsibility to use our time well. Through stories about the Prophet helping someone move her belongings and Imam Ali caring for a fellow traveler, he showed how faith is expressed through everyday service. He also described welcoming people into the mosque and making dua for them when they felt hesitant. His message invited us to keep learning about the Ahl al-Bayt and reflect their values in how we treat others.
- What would you like to learn about the everyday life of an Imam?
- When could you go a little out of your way to help someone this week?
- What could you say or do to help a new person feel welcome at the mosque?
