Ramadan opens doors but demands action

The khutbah in 4 steps

  1. Explains that chained shayateen expose internal sources of wrongdoing, including ego, greed, racism, and indifference.
  2. Urges listeners to identify personal triggers, habits, and vulnerabilities before Ramadan.
  3. Connects Ramadan’s moral responsibility to suffering, displacement, and generosity in Sudan and Palestine.
  4. Closes by calling for communal care, sustained transformation, and preparation for Ramadan through prayer.
Try this week
Prepare before Ramadan by identifying personal triggers, anxieties, anger, risky spaces, and people you mistreat.
Set aside reflective time to ask who you are becoming and what you bring into other people’s lives.
Practice istighfar and apologize to people you have wronged.
Replace consumerism and busyness with restraint, contemplation, and generosity toward people in need.
Greet people you know and do not know, ask how they are, and offer a smile.
Plan specific changes to continue three and six months after Ramadan.
