For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that learning Islam begins with the basics we need for our everyday responsibilities, including prayer, cleanliness, and treating people well. He encouraged anyone struggling with Al-Fatiha to keep trying and to ask for help without shame. Even leaving a shared bathroom clean is a way to care for others and take our faith seriously. We have a responsibility to keep learning ourselves and to teach our children, asking knowledgeable people when we do not understand. Learning should bring us closer to Allah, rather than make us feel better than other people. Understanding Allah’s names and making time to seek knowledge can deepen our worship and help us on the path to paradise.

  1. What is something about prayer you would like us to learn or practice together?
  2. How could you leave a shared space nicer for the next person?
  3. What would you like to ask a knowledgeable teacher about Islam?
