Live your faith consistently everywhere
“We want to work towards being consistent and being authentic and being the same person that I am in my mind, I am in my life.”
Tawheed should make Muslims, especially students, confidently live their faith consistently everywhere, seek needed accommodations, promote good, resist wrongdoing, and grow through prayer, family, and knowledge.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Connects with the previous khutbah on Tawheed and presents Islamic faith as a central blessing and identity.
- Explains cognitive dissonance and warns against a gap between Muslim beliefs and everyday behavior.
- Urges students to maintain Islamic boundaries at school, request accommodations, and practice independent faith.
- Calls believers to oppose bullying and wrongdoing, promote good, and represent Islam positively.
- Encourages Muslim students to organize prayer and MSAs, maintain salah, and bring remembrance of Allah into daily speech.
- Advises youth to serve and confide in parents, pursue Islamic knowledge, remain authentic, and aim high.
- Closes with a call for consistency in faith and prayers for Muslims facing oppression, especially in Gaza.
In the khateeb's words
“It's another thing to be very proud of it and be happy about it and be confident and making that an important part of our identity.”
“I could be at school and I make it very clear. This is, this is, these are my boundaries. This is what I do. This is what I do not do.”
“We want to work towards being consistent and being authentic and being the same person that I am in my mind, I am in my life.”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us that our faith is a precious blessing and should guide our choices wherever we are. He encouraged young people to feel confident about being Muslim, keep up their prayers, and ask for what they need at school. Our faith also calls us to help others, speak up when someone is mistreated, and encourage good. We can remember Allah in everyday conversations through greetings, gratitude, and duas. He encouraged children to help their parents and share their joys and worries with them, while continuing to learn and aim high in both faith and school.
- What is one choice at school where your faith can guide you?
- How could you help someone who is being left out or made fun of?
- What is one happy moment or worry from your day that you would like to share?
