Islamic teachings make hardship easier
“It is the Islamic teachings and application of Islamic teachings that make things easy for us.”
The khutbah teaches that every blessing and hardship is under Allah’s care, so Muslims should remain on the Prophet’s path, reject prideful ownership, and meet challenges with repentance, practical effort, and tawakkul while hoping for lasting good.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The khateeb honors a deceased community member and introduces Surah al-Kawthar as a short surah with immense meaning.
- Al-Kawthar is explained as abundant, endless goodness, including the Prophet’s pool, and believers are urged to stay on his clear path.
- The message connects Islam’s lasting hope to Islamophobia, Palestine, and the assurance that present hardships will end.
- Using Shaytan, Pharaoh, and the two-gardens story, the khutbah warns against treating wealth, status, or abilities as self-owned.
- The story of Musa’s dua teaches listeners to ask Allah for an open chest, ease, clear speech, and courage.
- The closing applies the lesson to jobs, studies, grief, and injustice: take real action, rely on Allah, and pray for the deceased and oppressed.
In the khateeb's words
“It is the Islamic teachings and application of Islamic teachings that make things easy for us. that gives us a different perspective on life and of any difficulty that may confront you.”
“Wallahi, we are truly drowning in blessings, my dear brothers and sisters”
“But Musa teaches us: that we should face these challenges head on. And he asks Allah to make ease in the matter.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that Surah Al-Kawthar carries a message of abundant goodness and hope, even though it is very short. We were encouraged to treasure Islam, follow the Prophet's path, and remember that the blessings of Jannah never end. Another reminder was that our money, abilities, relationships, and achievements are gifts from Allah, so we should be grateful and help others without boasting. Through Musa's du'a, we learned to ask Allah for courage, ease, and help expressing ourselves when challenges feel difficult. Trusting Allah also means making an effort, and we can support one another as we take those steps.
- What is one blessing you could use to help someone this week?
- What challenge could you make du'a about, and what step could you take toward it?
- When have you needed help explaining something, and what helped you feel understood?
