Qualified scholars protect religious knowledge
“They will be misguided; they will be misguiding the whole community at large.”
The community must preserve sound religious knowledge by supporting and preparing qualified scholars, because when scholars die and ignorant people issue rulings, they misguide themselves and others.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The khutbah opens with praise, testimony, and a call to taqwa.
- It presents the prophetic warning that Allah removes knowledge by taking scholars.
- It explains the danger of unqualified people issuing halal and haram rulings without knowledge.
- It urges the community to invest resources in preparing qualified scholars to fill future gaps.
- It closes with Quranic recitations and prayers.
- Announcements cover Ramadan volunteering, iftar sponsorship, upcoming events, parking conduct, and community support.
In the khateeb's words
“they do not have the courage they do not want to be embarrassed they do not want to be on the spot they cannot say I do not know give me more time I will educate myself”
“we have sufficient amount of people of knowledge lining up to fill the gap that is the message that He is sending all of us here”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that religious knowledge can be lost when respected scholars pass away. It warned that unqualified people may then give answers about halal and haram without knowing enough, misleading themselves and others. Our community should support the education of trustworthy future scholars and value the humility to say, “I do not know.” As Ramadan approaches, the mosque also invited us to volunteer, sponsor iftars, attend community programs, and follow parking guidelines. Our family can choose one meaningful way to learn and serve together.
- What does a trustworthy teacher do when they do not know an answer?
- How could our family help someone learn and serve the Muslim community?
- Which Ramadan volunteer or community activity would you like us to join?
