For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah teaches that a healthy relationship with Allah holds hope and fear together. We hope in His vast mercy and forgiveness, while fearing that we may fall short and earn punishment. Hope without fear can make us careless, while fear without hope can make us despair, so both should move us toward better worship. We can practice this balance through daily self-accountability, frequent repentance, Qur’an reflection, righteous friends, and sincere dua. Even when we have sinned, we should return to Allah with confidence in His mercy and determination to improve.

  1. When do you need more hope, and when do you need more carefulness?
  2. What is one small good deed you can do this week?
