Allah tests us through hardship and blessing
“He should be thankful to Allah.”
Allah tests every servant through both hardship and blessing so that faith becomes truthful, and believers should meet each test with patience, remembrance, dua, and gratitude.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Defines abtila, musiba, and fitna through their Arabic meanings.
- Explains that trials are unavoidable and belief in qadr includes both good and hardship.
- Uses prophetic stories to show how trials develop patience, readiness, and gratitude.
- Presents Quranic responses: patience, remembrance, dua, and acceptance of Allah’s decree.
- Concludes by emphasizing gratitude in prosperity and ease accompanying hardship.
In the khateeb's words
“nothing happened in this world with a coincidence. Everything happened after the Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala permission, after the Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala divine will.”
“Surely we tested the people or nations before them So this is the purpose for abtila So Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will clearly distinguish the truthful who is the truthful and who is the liar”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that both difficult times and good times can be tests from Allah. The khateeb shared examples from the prophets, including Musa being prepared through trials and Sulaiman responding to blessings with gratitude. When hardship comes, we are encouraged to be patient and remember that we belong to Allah and will return to Him. We can ask Allah not to test us beyond what we can bear, and we should respond to health, wealth, and other blessings with thankfulness. Through it all, we can hold on to the Qur’an’s reminder that with hardship comes ease.
- What is one blessing you could thank Allah for through something you do this week?
- What could our family do to help someone going through a difficult time?
- What would you like to ask Allah for when something feels hard?
