For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that even the prophets experienced sadness, loss, and long periods of hardship. The khateeb used Yusuf’s story to show how hope and disappointment can follow one another without meaning that Allah has abandoned us. He encouraged us to keep our faith, choose what pleases Allah even when it costs us comfort, and trust that Allah can make a way out. When we feel overwhelmed by other people’s suffering, we can ask what we can do to help and how we can become better ourselves. He also reminded us to turn to Allah in dua with trust and hope, even while relief seems far away.
