Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jul 25, 2026.
Daily repentance brings relief and provision
“Glad tidings for the person who in their book of deeds has much istighfar.”
In one sentence
Istighfar and tawbah are the constant hallmark of the believer, not a one-time reaction to sin, and daily, sincere repentance humbles the heart, deepens certainty in the Hereafter, and brings Allah's relief, provision, and glad tidings.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Gratitude for the gifts of iman and Jumu'ah as a weekly renewal and reconnection with Allah
- The Prophet (ma'soom) himself sought forgiveness 70-100+ times daily, istighfar is the sign of the believer, not just a response to sin
- Three spiritual benefits: humility that removes arrogance, renewed certainty in accountability on the Last Day, and recognizing total need of Allah who is al-Ghani
- Istighfar is woven through the whole day: last third of the night (suhoor), after every prayer, before sleep, even leaving the bathroom
- Four conditions for accepted tawbah: stop the sin, firm resolve not to return, genuine regret (nadama), and restoring others' rights
- Guarding others' honor: the sacredness of a Muslim's blood, wealth, and reputation; ghiba compared to eating a dead brother's flesh
- Closing hadith: whoever clings to istighfar gets a way out of every difficulty, relief from every worry, and provision from unexpected sources
Try this week
Make istighfar a constant habit throughout the day, not just after sins, after every prayer, before sleep, and in routine moments
Wake for tahajjud and use the pre-dawn (suhoor) time for istighfar and reflection, even if only starting this week
Complete your tawbah: stop the sin immediately, resolve firmly not to return, feel genuine regret, and restore any wronged person's rights
Guard others' honor, stop backbiting and gossip, and ask forgiveness of anyone you have spoken ill of or wronged
Say the sunnah duas of forgiveness in daily routines, e.g. 'ghufranak' when leaving the bathroom
