Fulfill your duty and trust Allah
“If you put the effort forward, I assure you, the outcome is left up to Allah.”
Because Allah alone is the Wakil who controls outcomes, believers should fulfill their responsibilities and make sincere effort while surrendering results to Him instead of trying to control people, destiny, or circumstances.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Diagnoses society’s anxiety as an attempt to control every person, outcome, relationship, and uncertainty.
- Defines Allah as the Wakil and distinguishes human responsibility and effort from control over results.
- Applies this distinction to marriage, careers, money, fame, and mental health.
- Explains that believers should take practical steps, such as tying the camel, while trusting Allah.
- Introduces Iblis and the story of Musa and Khidr to illustrate the limits of human understanding and perception.
In the khateeb's words
“our jobs as husbands isn't to control our wives the job of a wife isn't to control her husband it is to assist one another to help one another”
“if you put the effort forward i assure you the outcome is left up to Allah it's left up to Allah it isn't left up to our whims”
“the believer realizes and acknowledge that his whole essence is an effort not an outcome his whole essence is an effort not an outcome”
“we were never meant to carry the outcome if we were able to carry the outcome then the whole world would look totally different than it do today”
For the dinner table
Allah is the Wakil, the One who is ultimately in charge of every outcome. Our responsibility is to make an honest effort, fulfill our roles, and take sensible precautions, but we cannot control people or guarantee results. Trying to carry that burden can feed anxiety, conflict, and disappointment, while trusting Allah can bring contentment even when plans change. Money, fame, and other goals cannot promise the peace we seek. We should tie our camel, do our part, and leave the final result to Allah.
- What is one thing you can work hard at this week without trying to control the result?
- When have you had to do your part and then trust Allah with what happened?
- What is the difference between being responsible and trying to control another person?
