Talk about it at home

For the dinner table

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi reminded us that caring for our hearts means paying attention to what fills our time and draws us away from Allah. He warned that endless scrolling can distract adults as well as young people, weaken our attention, and leave us disconnected from the people beside us. He explained that social media is not all bad, but watching forbidden content or letting it interfere with our duties crosses a serious line. He encouraged us to take breaks, increase our remembrance of Allah, choose beneficial content, and ask Allah for pure hearts. He also reminded us that talking, laughing, and spending loving time with our families can become worship when we do it with Allah in mind.

  1. What could we enjoy doing together during a phone-free hour this week?
  2. How do you feel after watching something helpful compared with scrolling longer than you intended?
  3. What would you like our family to talk about when we put our phones away at dinner?
