Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, May 1, 2026.

Sin calls for accountability and repentance

“Let istighfar be easy for you during the day and the tawba at night will be much easier as well.”

The khateeb, at 28:24

In one sentence

Because human beings are forgetful, weak, and vulnerable to temptation, the proper response to sin is humble accountability, constant istighfar, sincere tawba, and obedience to Allah's clear commands.

For the dinner table

Today's khutbah reminded us that everyone has weaknesses and makes mistakes. When Adam and Hawwah did wrong, they accepted responsibility and asked Allah for forgiveness and mercy, while Iblis tried to prove himself right. The khateeb encouraged us to follow clear teachings, such as praying and showing goodness to our parents, instead of explaining away our responsibilities. He also reminded us that strong feelings can cloud our judgment, but our guilt should never make us lose hope in Allah's mercy. We can keep asking Allah for forgiveness throughout the day and set aside thoughtful time to turn our hearts back to Him.

  1. What could you say to take responsibility after making a mistake?
  2. What action could help you calm down when you feel angry?
  3. When could our family pause to ask Allah for forgiveness together?
