Success comes from purifying the soul

“Taqwa, my brothers and sisters, is the foundation.”

The khateeb, at 3:22

In one sentence

True success comes from internal purification (tazkiyah) and redirecting one's natural energy and talents toward Allah rather than managing one's image or burying inner faults.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that real success comes from purifying what is inside us, not simply managing how others see us. The Qur'an contrasts tazkiyah, inner purification, with hiding or burying our faults. We were encouraged to recognize our unique talents and redirect our energy toward service, justice, and the sake of Allah, as the Prophet helped Umar ibn al-Khattab do. The story of Julaibib showed that taqwa, honesty, and integrity matter more than appearance, wealth, or social position. Regular self-accountability, sincere guidance, and good mentors can help us notice our mistakes and keep growing.

  1. What is one strength Allah gave you, and how could you use it to help someone?
  2. What does it mean to work on what is inside you?
  3. Who is someone you trust to give you honest advice?
