A sacred life requires intentional choices
“Your life is on loan, brothers and sisters.”
In one sentence
Because Allah has given believers a sacred covenant and complete way of life, they must intentionally guard what they consume, how they live, and how they build community.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames Islamic life through the five pillars and a sacred covenant with Allah.
- Uses Surah al-Ma'idah to connect fulfilling obligations with halal consumption.

Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“You are what you eat, brothers and sisters. And your life begins with consumption, which you consume.”
“But Allah is saying to you that your lifestyle is sacred. Your lifestyle should be intentional. Your lifestyle should be purposeful. Your lifestyle should be orientated around something that is clean.”
“Your life is on loan, brothers and sisters. Keep it in the pristine set of circumstances that it was given to you.”
“Our lifestyle is liberated. It frees us. We don't have a lifestyle that is freedom to oppress us. We have a lifestyle that frees us to progress us.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that Islam is a sacred lifestyle and that Allah commands us to fulfill our covenants and obligations. Our choices matter, including what we eat, hear, see, wear, say, and allow into our environments. We should live intentionally, keeping our lives clean and honoring the trust Allah has given us. The khateeb also encouraged us to support one another as a community and offer correction with love and mercy. By protecting this way of life together, we can grow in faith and help one another succeed.
- What is one thing you consume that helps your heart and mind feel clean?
- How can we make one part of our family life more intentional this week?
- How can we remind someone of a good choice with love and mercy?
