For the dinner table

Today's khutbah reminded us that taqwa begins in our hearts with knowing that Allah is watching us. The khateeb encouraged us to learn Muslim history so we can better understand our purpose and find strength during difficult times. He shared how stories of earlier believers brought comfort, and how Ja'far ibn Abi Talib spoke confidently about his faith before the king of Abyssinia. He emphasized treating others with good character, justice, and fairness, including protecting the rights of non-Muslims. He also encouraged us to develop our talents and excel in useful fields while being good examples of our faith. He ended by asking Allah to forgive us, help those facing hardship and oppression, and make us useful to others.

  1. Which person from Muslim history would you like us to learn about together, and why?
  2. What would you want a friend to understand about your faith?
  3. How could you use something you enjoy or do well to help someone this week?
