For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that Allah’s help is near even when life feels closed in. The speaker used Musa’s escape from Fir‘awn and the Prophet’s reassurance to Abu Bakr during hijrah to show that Allah is with people of taqwa, ihsan, and patience. Taqwa means guarding our relationship with Allah; ihsan means worshipping sincerely while remembering that Allah sees us; patience includes staying steady in hardship and accepting Allah’s decree. We were also reminded to remember death and prepare for Muharram by fasting Ashura, especially the ninth and tenth days, with the eleventh also recommended. The message is to trust Allah while living faithfully and doing good in everyday life.

  1. When have you felt helped after a situation seemed impossible?
  2. What is one everyday action you could do with ihsan this week?
  3. How might fasting help us become more patient and grateful?
