Resist distraction and remember Allah

“Have fun, but let's fulfill our responsibilities first.”

The khateeb, at 19:13

For the dinner table

The khateeb reminded us that we live in an age of distraction, and he acknowledged that he struggles with it too. Allah gives us regular opportunities to remember Him, but even allowed activities can take over our attention. Phones, games, and entertainment can pull us away from prayer and family responsibilities, so we need to notice our habits and put our responsibilities first while still enjoying halal fun. He described taqwa as being careful about our choices and remembering that we will answer to Allah for how we use His gifts. He encouraged us to spend quiet time remembering Allah, reflect in nature away from devices, choose good companions, and hold on to the Quran.

  1. What is one thing that distracts you from prayer or helping at home, and what could help?
  2. Where could we take a quiet walk together and notice Allah’s blessings?
  3. What does a friend do that helps you make good choices?
