Protect children by modeling Islam
“The best thing you can give to people around you and your children is your example.”
Every Muslim has a responsibility to protect and nurture the next generation by modeling Islamic practice, offering gentle guidance, choosing good influences, and learning Islam alongside children.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- The Qur’anic warning to protect families establishes everyone’s responsibility as a leader.
- Parents should use gentleness, presence, and attention while limiting screen distractions.
- Adults should examine their own friendships and choose good companions.
- Families should study the Qur’an and Islamic basics together, explaining prayer and halal and haram.
- Righteous children, nurtured through education and character, can benefit parents after death.
In the khateeb's words
“The best thing you can give to people around you And your children is your example Your example”
“They need our presence Our presence and our attention More than the presents we buy for them”
“Let's come to it together Let's try and understand it together Because I, Baba I am also a sinner I also make mistakes And I want to learn just as much as I want you to learn”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that every person carries responsibility for those they influence, especially the next generation. Children learn Islam not only from instructions but from the prayer, manners, gentleness, friendships, and attention they see in us. We should protect family time from screen distractions, choose good companions, and study the Qur’an and basic Islamic guidance together, explaining why we pray and what is halal or haram. By nurturing children’s character and praying for them, we hope to leave a righteous legacy that continues to benefit us.
- What helps you feel that your family is really listening to you?
- What Islamic topic would you like to learn about together this week?
