Patience begins at the first shock
In times of tribulation, believers should strengthen submission, patience, and active trust in Allah by following the Quran and Sunnah while keeping worldly success in its proper place.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Submit to Allah and fulfill the purpose of worship, following Ibrahim's example.
- Use the Quran and Sunnah as guidance through confusing and severe tribulations.
- Recognize excessive attachment to worldly life and fear of death as causes of weakness.
- Cultivate a sound heart and patience, especially during the first shock of calamity.
- Practice active tawakkul by taking practical means while trusting Allah for provision and outcomes.
- Conclude with prayers for steadfastness, the oppressed, guidance, and the establishment of prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“This is the tradition, this is the curriculum for our lives.”
“There is nothing wrong with that As long as That's not the center of your life”
“True patience that Allah describes with glad tidings that He mentioned in the ayah Is the one that shows up when the first shock of the calamity hits you”
For the dinner table
Allah created us to worship Him, and the Quran and Sunnah guide us when life feels confusing. The khutbah warns that loving worldly success too much and fearing death can weaken faith, while success and wealth are acceptable when Allah remains central. Faith is tested through loss, fear, hunger, and sudden grief, and real patience appears at the first shock. We should examine our hearts, respond with remembrance and acceptance of Allah’s decree, and practice tawakkul. Tawakkul means taking sensible action while trusting Allah with the outcome and our provision.
- What does keeping Allah at the center look like in everyday life?
- How can we show patience when upsetting news first arrives?
- What is one effort we can make while trusting Allah with the result?
