Protect your faith from doubts
“Seeking beneficial knowledge has to be a lifelong journey.”
Islam is the uniquely preserved, universal truth from Allah, and believers must protect their faith from doubts through prayer, knowledge, good company, and trustworthy guidance.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Establishes Islam as creator-revealed truth evaluated by evidence rather than popularity or cultural custom.
- Explains Islam's pure monotheism, Quranic preservation, universal scope, salvation through belief and deeds, and the Prophet's example.
- Identifies four sources of apparent doubts: inauthentic attributions, misunderstanding, ignorance or bias, and incomplete learning.
- Warns that believers remain vulnerable to spiritual illness and must actively safeguard their faith.
- Recommends sincere dua, lifelong beneficial knowledge, good company, prioritizing clear Quranic teachings, and consulting trusted scholars.
- Concludes by asking Allah to keep believers and their families firm upon the religion.
In the khateeb's words
“The truth of Allah's religion and the truth of Islam is as clear as daylight.”
“we don't compare between things based on number but based on quality and based on evidence.”
“There's no harm in asking questions. But we shouldn't rush. Into coming to conclusions.”
“Seeking beneficial knowledge has to be a lifelong journey. From a young age, we're responsible for ourselves and for our children to make sure that they're brought up upon sound foundations.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah teaches that Islam is not just one human idea among many, but the preserved guidance of the Creator. Its core is worshipping Allah alone, living by sound beliefs and good deeds, and following the Prophet Muhammad's example. Doubts can come from weak reports, misunderstandings, limited knowledge and biases, or simply not having learned something yet. To protect our faith, we should ask Allah for firmness, keep learning, choose good friends, focus on clear teachings, and ask trustworthy people of knowledge when unsure. We should be patient with questions while resisting the urge to judge the truth before we understand it.
- What is one religious question you would like to learn about patiently?
- How do our friends and online content influence what we believe?
- Who could we ask when something about Islam is unclear?
