Returning to Allah requires faith and action
“When someone loves deeply, then the proof of that love is that they sacrifice.”
Returning to Allah begins with tawbah and closeness through dua, while true guidance requires responding through the Quran, the Prophet’s example, belief, and sacrifice for the Akhirah.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Frames Jumu'ah as a reminder and introduces tawbah as the first step toward Allah.
- Explains Allah’s nearness and direct access without intermediaries, with dua accepted wherever it is made.
- Identifies the condition of answered dua: believers must respond to Allah and believe in Him.
- Defines responding through the Quran, the Prophet’s example, religious practice, community responsibility, and guided technology.
- Presents sacrifice as evidence of love and an investment in the Akhirah, including support for Islamic institutions and teachers.
- Closes with a practical instruction to stay connected to the Quran and concludes with supplication and congregational prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“SubhanAllah, as Muslims, brothers and sisters, you and I have a direct, direct connection with Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
“Stick to the Quran. We say that this is the word of Allah.”
“When someone loves deeply, then the proof of that love is that they sacrifice.”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that turning back to Allah begins with tawbah, asking His forgiveness and renewing our relationship with Him. The khateeb emphasized that Allah is near and hears our duas wherever we are, including right here at home. He also reminded us to respond to Allah by staying connected to the Quran, following the Prophet’s example, and trusting Allah. That guidance should shape our family life and how we help our community. He encouraged us to invest in our hereafter by giving time, effort, or resources according to our ability, and left us with one practical step: stick to the Quran so we can understand what Allah asks of us.
- What would you like to make dua about while we are together at home?
- What could help our family spend meaningful time with the Quran this week?
- What is one way you could give your time or effort to help someone this week?
