Hardship calls for acceptance and dua
“Whatever problem you are facing, you accept that this is from Allah.”
Because this world is temporary and full of unavoidable trials, believers should prioritize the Hereafter, respond to hardship with acceptance and dua, and remain steadfast on Allah’s straight path.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The dunya is temporary, and every person is tested through both good and hardship.
- Believers should value Paradise and the Hereafter above worldly possessions and comforts.
- Hardships may be signs of Allah’s love, so believers should avoid resentment and bad assumptions.
- During trials, believers should increase dua and ask for forgiveness, mercy, patience, and steadfastness.
- The hadith of Sufyan ibn Abdullah and references to Surah al-Hud and al-Fatiha emphasize istiqamah.
- The khutbah closes with supplications, Quranic reminders, and congregational prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“one of the many realities is that this dunya is temporary and also from those realities of this life is that this dunya is full of trials”
“but rather that the acceptance that whatever issues we are going through whether financially whether with your wife whether your family whether your work whatever problem you are facing you accept that this is from Allah”
“al-istiqamah is something that we are consistently asking Allah and it is something that we should ponder over when we are reading surah al-fatiha”
“we should make more du'a we should be asking Allah and from the things that we are asking Allah my dear respected brothers and sisters to be upright and straight and not waver on the path”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminded us that this world is temporary, and everyone will face tests through both good and difficult experiences. When hardship comes, we should remember that the greatest success is entering Paradise and that a trial can be a means of Allah’s love, while still bringing our sadness to Him. We were encouraged to make more dua, ask for forgiveness and mercy, and seek patience and steadfastness. The key instruction was to believe in Allah and keep walking the straight path, returning to that request each time we recite al-Fatihah.
- What is one hardship where remembering the Hereafter might help you respond better?
- What dua could you make when you feel worried, angry, or discouraged?
- What helps you keep going after taking the first step toward something good?
