The khutbah reminded parents that their first priority is helping their children build a loving, mindful relationship with Allah. It taught that we must honor our parents and treat them kindly, while never obeying anyone in disobedience to the Creator. The khateeb also stressed that friends have tremendous influence, so young people and parents should pay attention to the direction their friendships are taking them. He encouraged families to cultivate taqwa, the awareness that Allah sees every choice, even when no person is watching. Finally, he called young Muslims to establish prayer, be proud of their faith, stand for what is right, and remain patient when doing so feels difficult.
