True productivity comes through barakah

“Barakah cannot be automated; it is a gift from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”

The khateeb, at 5:51

In one sentence

True productivity is barakah, lasting divine goodness, which comes through faith, taqwa, and daily practices modeled by the Prophet.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Distinguishes barakah from productivity and efficiency.
  2. Connects barakah to iman and taqwa, while explaining the feeling that time is shrinking.
  3. Uses the Prophet’s example to recommend beginning the day with Fajr and purposeful early activity.
  4. Urges listeners to leave distractions and invest time in family relationships.
  5. Encourages daily Quran recitation and frequent dhikr, including saying Bismillah before tasks.
  6. Concludes with prayers for the sick, deceased, oppressed, and wider Muslim community.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that a full schedule is not the same as a blessed life. Barakah means lasting goodness and doing more with less, and it comes through faith and God-consciousness. We can seek it by praying Fajr, avoiding distractions, caring for family, reading Quran daily, and remembering Allah in ordinary tasks. We should also pray for people who are sick, grieving, or suffering.

  1. How can we make our mornings more blessed?
  2. What short Quran or dhikr habit could our family practice together?
