Repentance & taqwaFrom the masjid's own video, Jun 6, 2026.

True faith is lived, not claimed

“We don't know what's coming next, but I know that in this moment, I can try to be true.”

The khateeb, at 83:39

In one sentence

The khutbah teaches that genuine faith is not a claim or performance but a lived, truthful submission to Allah shown through sacrifice, remembrance, humility, obedience, and perseverance amid hardship and confusion.

The khutbah in 5 steps

  1. Hajj and the story of Ibrahim, Ismail, and Hajar teach humility and sacrificial obedience.
  2. Revelation must live in the heart rather than remain shelf knowledge, and Jumu'ah requires focused attention.
  3. Readiness for death means sincerity of belief rather than confidence in one's deeds or reputation.
  4. In difficult times, spiritual wealth comes from dhikr, truthfulness, and aligning actions with values.
  5. Listeners are urged to avoid doubtful matters, admit ignorance, seek qualified guidance, and remain united.
Try this week
Put phones away during Jumu'ah and remain attentive.
Examine whether the Qur'an and Sunnah are shaping your actions, not merely your knowledge.
Speak truthfully and make your actions match your stated values.
Set aside doubtful matters until you can consult someone knowledgeable.
Admit when you do not know instead of pontificating on every issue.
Maintain dhikr, humility, and unity during periods of hardship.

For the dinner table

The khutbah reminded us that Ibrahim and his family teach us sincerity, humility, and willingness to sacrifice for Allah. Faith belongs in our hearts and everyday actions, including the example we set for children and the attention we give to Friday prayer. We were reminded to examine ourselves and trust Allah’s mercy rather than feel proud of our deeds. Even when life feels difficult, real wealth comes from faith, remembrance of Allah, and a rich inner life. We can practice that today by speaking truthfully, matching our actions to our words, and humbly asking for guidance when we do not know.

  1. What comfort could we give up this week to make time to help someone?
  2. What helps you remember Allah when your day feels difficult?
  3. When is telling the truth hard, and how could our family help each other do it?
