For the dinner table

Today’s khutbah reminded us that the Prophet loved Makkah deeply, yet left his home for Allah’s sake when Muslims faced oppression. The khateeb described Suhaib giving up his wealth, Ali risking his life to protect the Prophet, and Abu Salama’s family enduring painful separation during the Hijrah. These stories invite us to think about what matters most when following our faith becomes difficult. The khateeb reminded us that our own sacrifices can include leaving harmful habits and choosing how we spend our time more carefully. He also encouraged fasting in Muharram as an opportunity to give something up for Allah’s pleasure, and prayed for a coming year full of goodness and blessings.

  1. How could we do something kind for a neighbor with the intention of pleasing Allah?
  2. What stood out to you about Suhaib choosing his faith over his wealth?
