Faith gives strength beyond wealth and status

“The how is less important for a believer than the who.”

The khateeb, at 9:34

In one sentence

True empowerment comes from preserving iman and living in submission to Allah, enabling believers to remain courageous and dignified through hardship rather than relying on wealth, status, or circumstances.

The khutbah in 6 steps

  1. Defines empowerment and contrasts faith-based strength with reliance on wealth, status, and affiliations.
  2. Distinguishes outward circumstances from the inner state of faith, using Bilal and displaced families as examples.
  3. Explains that submission is tested when Allah’s commands are difficult, through Ibrahim, Musa, and Bani Israel.
  4. Emphasizes trusting Allah’s presence over knowing the escape plan, through Musa and Abu Bakr.
  5. Connects iman, sincerity, prayer, responsibility, and courage to speak against oppression.
  6. Closes by urging listeners to protect iman through prayer, especially Fajr, and raise children through worship.

The khutbah teaches that real empowerment does not come mainly from money, status, or an easy life. It comes from keeping iman alive and trusting Allah even when we cannot see the way forward. Bilal, Musa, Abu Bakr, and faithful families facing displacement are examples of dignity under pressure. Submission is most meaningful when Allah’s command feels difficult, and sincere prayer can give us courage to do what is right. We should protect our faith through the five prayers, especially Fajr, and let it guide how we live and raise our children.

  1. What helps you feel strong when a problem seems bigger than you?
  2. How can our family make Fajr and the other prayers more sincere?
  3. When is it difficult to do the right thing, and what could help us choose Allah's command?
