How ordered creation points to Allah
“When we see a sunset, be mesmerized with the sunset but connect it back to the one who created the sun in the first place.”
The khutbah argues that reflecting on the ordered creation strengthens rational belief in Allah, while Muslims should embody and explain Islam through informed ethics and public service.
The khutbah in 5 steps
- Resumes the theological series by introducing the proof of organization, or burhan al-nazm.
- Explains how order, consistent causation, and interdependence in nature imply an organizing intellect.
- Uses Quranic reflection on creation to encourage gratitude and family conversations about Allah.
- Prays for people suffering in Lebanon, Palestine, and Syria and discusses discrimination and occupation.
- Calls Muslims to represent Islam through morality, reliability, public service, accurate language, and informed education.
In the khateeb's words
“When we see a sunset, be mesmerized with the sunset but connect it back to the one who created the sun in the first place.”
“we can't just be people who regurgitate things we hear on social media without knowing certain truths behind it”
For the dinner table
The khateeb reminded us to be conscious of Allah and to strengthen our faith through understanding and reflection. He explained the proof of organization by pointing to the order in creation, including what trees need to grow and how our organs work together. He encouraged families to notice sunsets and changing leaves, connect them to their Creator, and appreciate blessings we sometimes take for granted. He also prayed for people facing hardship and spoke about our responsibility to challenge prejudice without confusing criticism of Israel with hatred toward Jews. His practical message was to learn carefully, speak accurately, and show Islam through kindness, responsibility, and service to others.
- What did you notice in nature today that made you feel thankful to Allah?
- What is one question about faith you would like us to explore together?
- How could we help care for a park, our neighborhood, or people who need food this week?
