Worldly life tests what we value
Worldly life is a brief test, and believers pass it by putting Allah above worldly attachments, trusting His guidance as Ibrahim and the Prophet Muhammad did, and nurturing their children's faith so righteous deeds become a legacy.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Worldly life brings unavoidable tests through family, relationships, money, authority, and aging.
- Tests reveal a person's true character and determine whether they deserve Jannah.
- The Prophet Muhammad faced immense trials and should be remembered through daily obedience, sunnah, fasting, and gratitude.
- Ibrahim and Hajar exemplified complete trust in Allah's commands during severe tests.
- Ibrahim's prayers connected faith, prophetic guidance, and righteous future generations.
- Parents should prioritize their children's deen, teach worship and manners, and leave a legacy of righteous deeds.
In the khateeb's words
“we celebrate having the prophet in our life through praying sunnah through fasting monday and thursday”
“those people who focus only in the dunya for their children subhanallah their children get lost but focus on deen because the the deen gonna stay but dunya gonna be gone”
“whatever good deeds you are doing right now Allah will honor your your children your grandchildren your great grandchildren because of you do something for the sake of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala”
For the dinner table
Today’s khutbah reminded us that life is a test, and our family, money, authority, and relationships can all reveal how faithfully we follow Allah. The speaker pointed to Ibrahim and Hajar as examples of trusting Allah, and to the Prophet Muhammad as someone whose life and trials deserve remembrance every day. He urged us to honor the Prophet through sunnah, fasting Mondays and Thursdays, prayer, and dhikr, not by remembering him only once a year. Parents were encouraged to care about their children’s deen by teaching manners, waking them for Fajr, and helping them grow close to Allah. Good deeds done sincerely can become a lasting legacy that benefits children and future generations.
- What is one everyday situation that can test our honesty or patience?
- How can our family remember and follow the Prophet this week?
- What kind of good legacy do we hope to leave for younger family members?
