Trust Allah through life’s tests
“Allah is gifting you through your tests.”
Believers should correct their spiritual perspective on qadr by recognizing Allah’s control, responding to trials with patience and gratitude, and still taking responsible means while trusting Him.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- The khutbah urges taqwa, truthful speech, and good actions as signs of a sound heart.
- It introduces qadr and explains that human ability exists under Allah’s complete sovereignty.
- It reframes illness, loss, disappointment, and family difficulties as tests that can bring believers closer to Allah.
- It clarifies that accepting divine decree does not cancel effort, medication, dua, or other practical means.
- The examples of the prophets and the Prophet Muhammad emphasize patience, grief without disobedience, and faithful endurance.
- It closes by urging forgiveness, gratitude, contentment, reliance on Allah, and remembrance.
In the khateeb's words
“Everything that happens in life isn't what it is that we want. But guess what? We never say anything that displeases Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.”
“Allah is gifting you through your tests. So what will you do with Him?”
“So the way that you end up tasting the sweetness of faith. Is being dutiful to Allah. Accepting what He has decreed.”
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah reminded us that Allah has given us abilities and choices, while the outcome of our efforts remains in His control. We should take practical steps, make dua, and keep turning to Him when life does not go as planned. The khateeb encouraged us to worship Allah with trust, rather than making our worship depend on getting what we want. He described the Prophet's tears during loss, reminding us that patience can include sadness and real feelings. Even everyday difficulties with family can become opportunities to practice good character, speak kindly, and draw closer to Allah.
- How could you say something difficult with both honesty and kindness?
- When a plan falls apart, what helpful step could you take while asking Allah for help?
- What could our family do to comfort someone who feels sad?
