Families must prepare youth to carry Islam
“If you want to empower Islam and Muslims we have to empower and honor our youth.”
Umrah should transform everyday worship, while families must empower youth with Islamic knowledge and responsibility so they can carry Islam forward.
The khutbah in 7 steps
- Reflects on Umrah, sacred places, multiplied deeds, unity, and humility.
- Urges worshippers to return with consistent prayer, dhikr, love of the Prophet, and daily self-accountability.
- Warns against practicing Islam only culturally or occasionally, especially when revelation conflicts with personal desires.
- Uses examples from the seerah and Sahaba to show how the Prophet entrusted major responsibilities to young people.
- Challenges parents to assess their children's Quranic knowledge, faith, and ability to represent Islam.
- Encourages families to involve children in mosques, halaqat, maktab, Sunday school, and Islamic education.
- Announces youth activities, halaqas, educational programs, and Sunday gatherings.
In the khateeb's words
“But what are we bringing back from Makkah and from Madinah? One thing that we have seen in Makkah al-Mukarramah is that we all had one direction.”
“The believers when they listen to the commandments of Allah their heart gets softened, their heart gets melted and when they listen to the ayat of Allah their iman gets increased.”
“If you want to empower Islam and Muslims we have to empower and honor our youth”
“Look at your child. Go and check and look at your child and then think and ask yourself, "My child, is he the true ambassador of Islam?"”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that Umrah is not only a journey to Makkah and Madinah; it should change how we live afterward. We should return to regular prayer, remembrance, humility, and self-accountability. The Prophet gave young people important responsibilities, so families and communities should trust, train, and educate their youth. Parents are encouraged to check their children's Quran learning and place them in environments where they can grow in Islam. The goal is for children to become confident ambassadors of their faith.
- What is one good habit from Umrah or Ramadan that you want to keep going?
- What responsibility would you like to take in our family or mosque?
- What surah or Islamic topic would you like to learn better this year?
