Quotes
In the khateeb's words
“The Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, said that strong man is not the one who fights and that the strong man, truly strong man is the one who can control himself.”
“How patient are we comparing to him? Do we get angry for the same reasons that he, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam, gets angry for?”
“Don't lose your kids because if they don't connect with you, they will connect to somebody outside of their household.”
Talk about it at home
For the dinner table
Today's khutbah reminded us that patience is a quality Allah loves and something we can practice even when it feels difficult. The khateeb pointed to the Prophet's patience through hardship and urged us to follow his character as well as his worship. He explained that real strength includes controlling ourselves when we are angry. Our prayers should help us become more honest, generous, forgiving, and patient with others. At home, we can show the beauty of Islam by listening to one another, showing mercy when mistakes happen, and correcting problems with care.
- When was it hard to be patient today, and what helped or might have helped?
- What helps you feel listened to when someone disagrees with you?
