New Year's resolutions can be useful, but the khutbah warns us not to use a date on the calendar as an excuse to delay prayer, repentance, or other good changes. Allah has given us time as a gift, and every moment is an opportunity we may not get back. Our generation has enormous access to knowledge, yet phones and constant stimulation can make us shallow and distracted, so we should slow down and think about the Qur'an's meaning. When Shaytan tells us to pray or repent later, we should act now and turn our worries over to Allah, following the Prophet's example. We do not need to be perfect, but we should live with effort, sincerity, and urgency.

  1. What is one good thing you could start today instead of waiting for a special date?
  2. What helps you slow down enough to think about the Qur'an?
  3. When you are worried about something you cannot control, how can you turn to Allah?
