Seek forgiveness before Ramadan ends
“I hope that your a'mal will be multiplied even more and your chance of acceptance will be greater.”
End Ramadan with sincere istighfar, humility, balanced fear and hope, and abundant dua so worship shortcomings are forgiven and deeds accepted.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Reflects on the blessing of reaching the final Friday and remaining days of Ramadan.
- Explains istighfar as seeking forgiveness and covering shortcomings after worship.
- Uses Hajj and the Prophet’s practice to show why even devoted worshippers seek forgiveness.
- Warns against guilt and self-admiration while encouraging honest self-auditing.
- Calls for balancing fear that deeds may be rejected with hope for acceptance.
- Urges increased dua alongside good deeds and forgiveness during the remaining precious moments.
In the khateeb's words
“when it comes to seeking forgiveness, it repairs for us the deficiencies that we had in our ibadah and our ta'a.”
“Never let the Shaytan put you into desperation mode. That meaning, you know what, that's it. You're not going to be getting anything out of Ramadan.”
“So if you combine good deeds with forgiveness, seeking forgiveness, plus the dua, I hope that your a'mal will be multiplied even more and your chance of acceptance will be greater.”
For the dinner table
The khutbah reminds us that reaching the end of Ramadan is itself a blessing. We should finish the month by asking Allah’s forgiveness, because even our best worship cannot match His greatness and may contain shortcomings. Istighfar also protects us from guilt and from feeling proud of our accomplishments. We should keep both concern that our deeds may not be accepted and hope that Allah will accept them. In the remaining days, we can combine good deeds, forgiveness, and sincere dua, especially during precious times when dua is accepted.
- What Ramadan habit would you like to keep after Eid?
- How can we ask forgiveness without becoming discouraged?
- When is a good time for you to make dua this week?
