Return to Allah through daily repentance
“Say Astaghfirullah and watch that sin be deleted from your life.”
The khutbah teaches that believers should fear and love Allah by returning to Him constantly in repentance, understanding their worship, and adopting simple daily habits that bring peace and spiritual awareness.
The khutbah in 6 steps
- Opens by affirming Allah’s sovereignty and urging believers to fear and love Him through awareness of His constant watchfulness.
- Explains that worship, charity, kindness, and good conduct benefit the servant rather than increasing Allah’s majesty.
- Emphasizes Allah’s immense forgiveness and love, welcoming people back even after repeated mistakes.
- Connects conscious prayer with understanding Surah al-Fatihah and trusting Allah while still taking responsible action.
- Gives morning and bedtime repentance routines, a daily sin-review exercise, and encouragement to share one practice with family.
- Closes with supplication, Quranic reminders, and congregational prayer.
In the khateeb's words
“it's not about the mistake that you made it's not about if you're going to make that mistake again it's about how are you coping with that mistake”
“give it one minute just one minute of your time read this dua when you start your day and know what it means truly my prayer my service my life my debt are all for Allah”
“make a picture in your head say Astaghfirullah and watch that sin be deleted from your life”
For the dinner table
Allah created and sustains everything, while we need Him completely. The khutbah reminds us that taqwa means living with awareness that Allah sees us, and that worship, kindness, charity, and repentance are for our own healing, not because Allah needs them. Even after repeated mistakes, we should return to Allah because He loves and welcomes sincere repentance. We can make this real by learning the meaning of what we recite, spending one minute with Allah at the start of the day, and asking forgiveness before sleep. Families are encouraged to choose one practice from Jumu'ah, share it with children, and turn it into a habit.
- What helps you remember Allah when nobody else is watching?
- What is one small habit that could help our family ask forgiveness more often?
- Which part of salah would you like to understand better?
